Treating anxiety and OCD: psychological and neurobiological mechanisms of change
explanation Cognitive behavioural therapy for anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) is effective in 50-60% of the cases. As yet it is not clear which factors contribute to this in a positive or negative way. Therefore more knowledge about the mechanisms of change of this treatment is needed. If the critical mediating processes can be identified, treatment may be improved by emphasizing the essential components. Moreover, by removing the ineffective components the costs can be lowered. Importantly, through investigations of working mechanisms of treatment change, the transportability of the treatment (components) that work to the clinical practice can be facilitated.
aim At the end of the session the participant knows more about psychological and brain mechanisms of change and the possible consequences for treatment of children and adolescents with anxiety disorders and ocd.
