Neurochemische aspecten van kinderlijk autisme
D.G. Cohen, R.B. Minderaa, J.G. Young
Autism seems to be a developmental disorder accompained by severe and mostly permanent intellectual and behavioral deficits based on some form of neurobiological defect as causative factor. The clinical studies of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine metabolism related to infantile autism are reviewed, and new studies are suggested. The behavioral deficits in autistic individuals seem to be major obstacles to clarification of the relations between symptoms and biochemical dysfunction in the brain.
