Our problems with social psychiatry: an unruly practice and its scientific foundation
B.P.R. Gersons
This paper sketches the significance of Rob Giel as pioneer of Dutch social psychiatry following in the footsteps of Querido and Trimbos. The widely differing views of these key figures point to the special complexity of social psychiatry. Due to this complexity together with the growing `myth of clinical psychiatry' social psychiatry in the Netherlands is threatened, structurally and scientifically, with the loss of its identity.
