Gestalttherapie preliminair ...
E. Heylen
Gestalt Therapy is a very meaningfull new approach in psychotherapy of the 'whole person' (as an entity in the organism-environment field), enabling him to become more complete and self-supporting.
After some information on its historical background, the here and now principle of Gestalt Therapy is discussed.
Formulation of theoretical insights on neurosis (i.e. neurotic defense, Gestalt conceptualisation of neurosis within five layers) gives the possibility for focussing explicitly on the three 'protagonists' in the interaction proces that is Gestalt Therapy: the patient, the group in which mostly is worked, and the therapist. It is seen that all these three are expected to be present in a typical authentic, holistic way, working fully with what is actually going on in the therapeutic situation. As a final remark it is stated that psychological disturbances are largely influenced by the 'field' or environment that is formed by inadequate, sickening micro- and macrosocial structures. Might this have eventual consequences for our attitude
as a mental health-caring group in this same society?
