Arbeid als hulpmiddel bij de epilepsiebestrijding
H. M. de Boer: Occupational therapy as a help to fight epilepsy
Working in the therapeutic workshop is based on three principles: Observation of seizures, functioning, in short observation of the whole individual, of course, with respect to his work, re-socialization and employment.
In order to realize these objectives, mainly light industrial work is done.
Why work? Work requires a clear structure and offers a regular daily progamme. Tensions, making contact, tiredness, boredom, fun, etc., are inherent to work and offer valuable possibilities for observation and training. Furthermore there are the following activities which are organized by the therapeutic workshop. Creative therapy — in f act an incorrect denomination. Much attention is paid to the acquiring of hobbies. Education - all kinds of practical skills are taught which are necessary for someone to be able to live independently, such as cooking, sewing, ironing, washing, etc. Spons, Study — continuation, with or without help, of a study already started or possibly a new study.
A representative of the therapeutic workshop attends the discussion about treatment.
