Wat is erger: ten onrechte opnemen of ten onrechte niet opnemen?
J. B. Bakker: What is worse: wrongly admit or wrongly not admit?
Against the question in this title two objections can be raised. The first objection concerns its general character. The second is about the question if in fact wrongly admitting or not admitting so very often occurs in common practice.
Both objections disappear when one analyses the situation concerning the problem. For this appears to be a decisionsituation, with as most important feature the big stress in which the decision-maker inevitably finds himself.
A point of no return can be distinguished with admitting as well as with not admitting. But, with not admitting this point is sooner passed and the consequences are more serious than with admitting, provided that there exists a careful and continuing judgment of the entire situation. If this condition is fulfilled, wrongly not admit is worse than wrongly admit.
