The relationship between eye tracking dysfunction and various measures of psychoticism was studied in a random sample of psychotic as well as nonpsychotic psychiatric patients. Psychotic and nonpsychotic patients, whether defined according to DSM-III or PSE criteria, did not differ significantly on eye tracking measures, but several correlations with psychoticism measures were positive and significant, notably the correlations with 'perceptual aberration', `magical ideation' and 'unfriendly world perception'. The results support the usefulness of a dimensional instead of categorical approach to diagnostic classification.
