Case report
Neurosarcoidosis as a cause of manic psychosis
D. De Mulder, J. Vandenberghe
summary A case report and a systematic review of the literature show that neurosarcoidosis can present initially as a manic episode with psychotic features. The diagnosis of neurosarcoidosis is based on a combination of clinical features, and radiological and histopathological findings. Contrastenhanced mri and lumbar puncture are the most sensitive investigations for detecting neurosarcoidosis. Corticosteroids are the treatment of choice. Very few data are available concerning the efficacy of psychotropic drugs for the treatment of psychiatric symptoms caused by neurosarcoidosis.
