Mutual criticism of psychoanalysis and evidence-based psychiatry is often due to a lack of knowledge of the approach criticised. Different forms of psychoanalytical objection to the evidence-based approach in psychiatry are critically reviewed. A rapprochement between these approaches seems possible and may already be on its way.
