Thirty years of psychosocial interventions in schizophrenia

background Many different psychosocial interventions in schizophrenia exist. But which are based on scientific evidence?
aims To identify the state of the art with regard to psychosocial interventions in schizophrenia. methods Thirty years of research regarding non-medical interventions in schizophrenia are reviewed. The eight psychiatric journals with the highest citation ranking in 1996 were used for this purpose. results Seventy-three studies were found.
conclusions There is scientific evidence to conclude that the core of psychosocial interventions in schizophrenia consists of community based care, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychoeducations and social and problem-solving skills training.
