Case report
A clinical case of treatment-resistant manic psychosis
E.C.A. Collumbien
In this paper the management of a woman with a severe treatment-resistant manic psychosis is described. Hyperparathyroidism as a possible cause for the resistance to treatment was considered. A search in Medline yielded a substantial amount of references on the occurrence of hyperparathyroidism in chronic lithium users. These findings and the diagnosis and the treatment of this lithium-associated hyperparathyroidism are discussed.
