Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and discontinuation symptoms: A literature review and its clinical relevance
A.C.M. Vergouwen, A. Bakker
Discontinuation symptoms during tapering off and after abrupt stoppage of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (ssri's) have been reported recently in case reports and clinical studies. These publications will be discussed with special emphasis on their clinical relevance. It is concluded that tapering off is associated with discontinuation reactions in all ssri's. Knowledge of discontinuation symptoms is important for clinicians and patients. These symptoms often can be managed with simple interventions.
