Psychiatric psychotherapy for the elderly
T.J. Heeren, A.C.G. Linssen, J.D. Overduin, R.M. Kok
In the wake of the increasing interest in psychiatric illness in late life also specific psychotherapy for the elderly has been developed. Psychotherapeutic interventions for the elderly are partly based on existing therapies for younger adults and partly on those specifically developed for the elderly such as life review or reminiscence. Usually adaptation of the frequency and duration of the sessions are recommended. Information and psycho-education form an important element in the therapy especially for the current generation.
