Chronic pain: 'fix' or 'manage'?

Critical comments on the concept of 'multidisciplinary pain clinic' and the role of the psychiatrist in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain. In this article the concept of 'multidisciplinary pain clinic' is critically discussed. It is proposed that medical-technical pain management should be separated from behaviorally-oriented pain rehabilitation. Finally, a plea is made for a stronger participation of psychiatrists in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain.
