Professionals in mental health services are being increasingly confronted with patients demonstrating both psychotic symptoms and addiction problems. The coexistence of these problem areas is not always recognized. This article presents a review of the relevant literature regarding prevalence, diagnosis and treatment of psychotic patients presenting simultaneously with problems of addiction.
