Inpatient treatment of patients with multiple personality disorder

A generally accepted model for the treatment of trauma implies: (1) stabilisation and symptom reduction; (2) treatment of traumatic memories; (3) social reintegration and rehabilitation. This article addresses the consequences of this model for clinical practice in psychiatric hospitals. Specific problems are discussed with respect to the various dissociative phenomena. Special emphasis is laid on knowledge and attitude of the therapeutic team.
