In this article the authors propose for discussion a training-program for residents in consultation psychiatry, including quality guidelines and a cursory teachingprogram. The quality guidelines successively apply to the program, the program directors, the teaching hospital and the residents. The cursory teachingprogram includes a seminar, capita selecta and patientdemonstrations. The seminar is focused on the most relevant psychiatric disorders. During the capita selecta the psychiatric aspects of a number of particular physical diseases are discussed. The patientdemonstrations consist of a structured case conference and subsequent discussion of relevant literature.
