Autocastration and gender-identity
I.M. Brugman, E.C.A. Collumbien
Self-castration by non-psychotic men constitutes a poorly understood topic in the literature. By reviewing the cases reported and by analyzing 3 new cases, we found an association of this problem with a gender-identity disorder with atypical characteristics and with a disturbance of the core-gender-identity. We stress the importance of a better recognition of this group of patients which seems to be at risk for severe genital self-mutilation.
