Recently, a new type of treatment for mildly retarded adults with severe behavioral disorders has been introduced in The Netherlands, in which persons are treated by an outreach team in their own home environment. A significant advantage of this treatment approach is that explicit attention can be given to the environmental factors that may influence the development and maintenance of behavioral disorders. This article gives a description of the outreach treatment approach, illustrated by two case histories.
