Electroconvulsive therapy in Holland: beyond its current limitations

In our opinion the emotional part of the public opinion has had a too big influence on the current indication for ECT. In the Netherlands the indication is narrowed to life-threatening and therapy-resistant depression. We argue that ECT should be one of the first-choice treatments for severe forms of depression, especially among elderly people.
