The role of electroconvulsive therapy in the treatment of the neuroleptic malignant syndrome
R.W. Kupka, R.M.W Smeets
In a review of the literature the effectiveness and complications of ECT in the treatment of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) are evaluated. ECT is an effective treatment for NMS and the underlying psychosis, but its use is restricted to special situations when patients do not respond to standard treatment, and/or the differentiation from lethal catatonia is impossible.
