Distance and closeness; training, attitude and typology of psychiatrists
The relationship between the professional attitude and the character of psychiatrists is reflected upon.
Six different personal styles are being distinguished. This typology strongly suggests a complementarity of on the one hand the dimension of natural science versus the humanities and on the other hand the dimension of closeness-distance in the psychiatrist-patient relationship. The implications for the training of psychiatrists are briefly considered.
