Treatment of lethal catatonia with dantroleen and ECT
W.A. Zwaan, W.A. Nolen
According to literature, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the most effective treatment for lethal catatonia, a life-threatening complication of an (affective) psychotic disorder characterized by catatonic excitement and hyperthermia. The present article describes two patients, with a probable diagnosis of lethal catatonia, in whom ECT was ineffective, while combined treatment with ECT and dantroleen led to improvement.
