The paradox of short-term residential psychotherapy and regression
M.P. Bolten
Residential psychotherapy, more than out-patient treatment, invites regression in clients. This may be one of the reasons for the finding that the stay in Psychotherapeutic Communities is often longlasting. When residential psychotherapy however is meant to be short-term treatment, the staff has to manage depth and extent of the regression. Several options for doing so are described, with special emphasis on the clinical setting.
