Short report
Hypersexuality from the biological point of view
M. Hebbrecht, W. Vandereycken
The term 'hypersexuality' or excessive sexual behavior is briefly discussed with emphasis upon the poor descriptions and definitions in the literature. Although hypersexuality is mostly psychogenicly determined, several somatic disorders may cause an enhanced sex drive. After a short description of the neuroendocrine system involved in sexual behavior, the most important neurologie, endocrine and toxic (iatrogenic) causes of hypersexuality are discussed.
