Short report
The role of motivation in residential treatment of adolescents
J.C.B. Eykman
Motivation for therapy should not be regarded as a mere patient-bound factor, bus as something which is defined to a considerable degree by the therapist, by the the therapeutic staff, and by the residential environment. Especially in the case of compulsory treatment of adolescents it is very important to look at the possibilities for influencing the so called hospital-bound motivational factors. There appear to be many possibilities for strengthening the motivation for therapy by structuring and handling the fysical as well as the human environment of the patient (i.e. psychotherapist, staff, the group of fellow-paticnts). Some practical examples are given.
