Selection Criteria for Psychoanalytic Grouppsychotherapy
L. Moyson, R. Pierloot, S. Verhaest
In this article selection criteria for psychoanalytic group psychotherapy, based on the literature, are reviewed. We first find that psychoanalytic group psychotherapy being a long-term insight-oriented psychoanalytic form of psychotherapy, the more general criteria for this kind of psychotherapy are required. We then describe some specific positive and negative criteria differentiating between the group and the individual form of this therapy. We differentiate between clinical categories, psychodynamic factors and problem areas. These criteria are synthetised in a table. Finally the role of the composition of the group on the selection criteria is discussed.
