Kritische psychiatrie of diskriminerende psychiatrie?
Critical psychiatry or incriminating psychiatry?
The author supports a good deal of the criticism against the inferior living conditions and working methods in most of the psychiatric clinics.
He, however, wants to signalize some dangers in connection with renewals.
There are reasons to believe that a tendency is developing that psychiatric clinics are starting to admit selectively the less disturbed patients in order to be able to work non-directively and as far as possible without coercive methods. They may even prefer the treatment of yavisclients.
The author stresses the point that instead they should work on improvement of their therapeutic climate. Psychiatrie hospitals are third echelon institutions. They should rise their intake-thresholds as high as possible for those who are only having 'mild problems' and lower these thresholds for those who suffer most. People being only slightly disregulated should be offered help at the first and second echelon levels.
