Short report
Idols, ideals, ideologies
J.A. Groen
The question is raised why idols, ideals and ideologies play such an important role in human life. In our daily psycho-analytical work can be demonstrated how both transference and countertransference are influenced by idolisation, idealizing and how analysis can be experienced as an ideology, all these acting as defence-mechanisms. In other forms of psychotherapy these mechanisme might also be found. In today's society idols, ideals and ideologies are seen in diversified forms, sometimes quite overt, sometimes disguised. The author holds the opinion that society would be better of without them, and that pragmatic and humans ethics are to be preferred.
