The psychiatrists in private practice
The present situation of psychiatric treatment is described. The training of more psychiatrists can never solve the problem of an ever-increasing number of psychiatric patients. New models are proposed, like group psychotherapy, and groups for couples: for many problems these are the therapies of first choice. The psychiatrist has three points of view: a somatic, a psychological and a pharmacological one. For the treatment of purely psychological problems, there is no need to get a somatic training first. A psychologist can do the job. The psychiatrist has to confuse himself primarily to patients with both somatic and psychological problems. This point of view has consequences for the psychiatrist, who has to work with some psychotherapists of psychological origin and for the insurances which have to accept these new models.
