Short report
Psychiatrische kanttekeningen bij het 'Peter Principe'
Th.B. Kraft
The book 'The Peter Principle', why things always go wrong, gives a parody of the frequently short-sighted promotion polities in industry, as the consequente of which employees frequently end up in jobs for which they are not sufficiently competent. This bestseller is briefly reviewed and the attention is drawn to the often-encountered psychiatric conditions that are the result of unsuitable promotion.
Analogies are sketched with patients in psychiatrie hospitals, transit institutes, etc. who must be promoted (rehabilitated) to environments with a superior structure. In this respect it is necessary to attempt to achieve an optimum, where the living and working environment is concerned, rather than a maximum.
