Forensic psychiatric aspects of sexual offenders
H.J.C. van Marle, C.M. van Putten, M.J.J. de Ridder
In this study 161 sex offenders were compared with 504 other (mainly violent) offenders, all detained at the Pieter Baan Centre for forensic psychiatric assessment. In addition, several groups of sex offenders were compared among each other.
The results show that sex offenders have a more compulsive and neurotic personality than other offenders and differ in their way of upbringing. For further research more standardized forms of assessment are necessary to exclude a possible selectivity in the data.
Concluded is that these results lead to a reconsideration of the treatment of sexual offenders in the Dutch maximum security hospitals.
