Psycho-education in the treatment of unipolar depression
P. Cuijpers
The `coping with depression' course is a cognitive behavioural treatment modality for unipolar depression. The psychoeducational format allows this intervention to be used in several new ways. In a literature search thirteen studies on the effect of one of the several forms of the `coping with depression' course were found. The results of a meta-analysis indicate that this course is an effective therapy for unipolar depression, with effects that can be compared with other treatment modalities for depression. The original course is more effective than the courses which have been developed for different populations. Especially the course for the elderly is less effective.
