New research
Short-term residential psychiatric treatment
W. van Hezewijk, N. Sijben
In this article we review the literature on research on the subject to reducing length of stay. We focus on, especially American, controlled studies of short-term versus standard/long-term hospitalization, other studies (uncontrolled) and Dutch studies. Effectivity, setting, results and cost-benefit are discussed.
Methodological issues mark the relativity of the outcome of the studies. New research questions rise in the discussion.
