The role of editors in making medical knowledge
J.P. Vandenbroucke
summary Editors make medical journals. Two types of medical journals can be discerned: 'newspaper' and 'archival' journals. Newspaper journals aim to 'inform, interpret, criticize and stimulate'. They are responsible for the development of medical knowledge. This necessitates editors who steer medical journals. Continued publication in local languages serves the interest of public health.
