ABA in a child psychiatric clinic for autism; A chance to
empower staff and parents?
explanation In a child psychiatric clinic for Autism Spectrum Disorders (asd) was a growing need for a scientifically-based method for the staff to improve the learning environment in the residential treatment groups. Treatment is considered as a partnership between the clinic and the parents in order to decrease the problems evolving out of asd.
An Applied Behavior Analysis (aba) training package was developed to provide the staff and parents with tools to improve the learning environment in the treatment groups and at home. The goal for the study was to examine the implementation gains for the children, staff and parents.
methods The staff package consisted of a 2-days training workshop, live feedback and video feedback during 3 months after training. Parents participated in an aba parent group training.The first preliminary results, descriptive and statistical analyses, and conclusions for the future will be discussed.
aim In the session participants are introduced with a collaboration project between a child psychiatric clinic and a research department. In the project staff and parents received an aba-training package in order to increase learning opportunities for asd children. Participants learn about the first preliminary results, gains and limitations.
