Conceptual and methodological problems around the theme: negative symptoms
J.A. den Boer, W.M.A. Verhoeven, H.G.M. Westenberg
A brief and historical conceptual background for the study of negative symptoms is provided. Since no criterion is available against which scales that have been developed to measure negative symptoms can be validated, conceptual problems are difficult to overcome. Some scales are critically discussed. In addition several diagnostic issues concerning the presence of negative symptoms are briefly reviewed.
