Withdrawal of an antidepressant (fluvoxamine): not always without problems

A 29-year old female in-patient, diagnosed with severe eating disorder and an agitated depression, was gradually weaned off fluvoxamine. As in a previous attempt to discontinue of fluvoxamine, she developed a number of serious withdrawal effects: frequent fainting, lightheadedness and dizziness, hyperventilation, severe headache, suicidal ideation and loss of subjective memory.
