Prevalence and course of obsessive and compulsive behaviour in children
and adolescents: A review of literature

In this article, an overview is given of the literature concerning the epidemiology and prognosis of ocd(obsessive compulsive disorder) in children and adolescents. The importance of early recognition of these problems is stressed. ocdin children does not get the attention it deserves. Health professionals of all branches should be aware of this condition. Follow-up surveys show a poor outcome for most of the children with ocd. Youngsters with ocd have a poor psychiatric and psychosocial outcome. Future research should target on the prognosis of this condition and on the effect treatment may have on it.
