Child and adolescent psychiatry is a recognized area of special attention. The position and the duration of the child and adolescent psychiatric training are beyond the European standards. The outcome of the debate about generalization or specialization will determine if child and adolescent psychiatry can develop into adulthood within the Dutch Psychiatric Association.
