In 1972 the first Dutch article on consultation psychiatry was published in this journal. After a brief summary of this publication, some remarks are made on the growth and development of consultationliaison- psychiatry in the Netherlands and Flanders. Consultation-liaison-psychiatry is of great importance for strengthening the medical identity of psychiatry. The future looks bright.
