The conceptions of transitive consciousness and its modalities are confronted with the syndrome of neurosis and with dreaming. Freud's hypotheses of the pleasure principle, of 'the' unconsicious, of a theory of neurosis based on a psychology of instincts and also his theories on dreaming are examined and criticized.
