A number of clinical neurological phenomena, provoked by electroshock treatment with 15 psychiatric, righthanded patients were investigated. It is very probable that the observed phenomena are mainly the result of a direct influence on the function of the cranial part of the brainstem. This most likely gives us also the clue to the therapeutic effect of electroshock.
