Consultatieve psychiatrie

Some experiences of a psychiatric consultant in a general hospital are described. This is done based on a survey of referrals during a period of 6 months time. Especially, the question is raised why a psychiatric consultation has been asked for. It is discussed that the emotional involvement of the physician (and the nursing skiff) (ijlen plays an important role. Finally some remarks are made about the reactions of patients and physicians towards psychiatric consultations.
