Animal models for the cognitive disturbances in schizophrenia
B.A. Ellenbroek, A.R. Cools
summary In spite of significant improvements in imaging technique, investigating the cognitive disturbances in schizophrenia has proven very difficult. Animal research can be a useful tool in this respect, since these disturbances can be investigated with virtually identical techniques in humans and animals, especially in relation to information processing deficits. This article briefly reviews the current status of neurobiological research into information processing deficits in rats and its relation to schizophrenia.
