On rehabilitation and differentiation
Long-stay patients in a general psychiatric hospital may need some special prothesis for their rehabilitation. For 208 patients, intramural in a sociotherapeutic centre of a GPH, the kind of support or treatment that they needed, was investigated for their daily functioning according to the nurses.
Diversification of support is possible, although many patients need support for particular combinations of impairments in tasks in daily functioning. It is important that demand and supply of care are matched. This necessitates a diversification of offered services intramurally as well as extramurally. It goes without saying that this deeply affects the organisation of the health system. To this end three organisational models are proposed and their relative merits are elucidated.
