Münchausen syndrome, factitious disorder and their correlation with personality disorders
D. Moons
Using an illustrative case, resemblances and differences are discussed between the Münchausen syndrome as described by Asher and the factitious disorder as we know it from the DSM-III-R. Parallel, data concerning an underlying personality disorder are reported. Finally, the importance of a differentiation between these two entities is stated with regard to management and therapy.
