Early psychological consequences of traumatic police-experiences: some preliminary findings
I.V.E. Carlier, R.D. Lamberts, B.P.R. Gersons
275 police officers participated in a study concerning 31 critical incidents. 3% had the diagnosis of PTSD, 30% had PTSD-symptoms (so-called `partial or subthreshold PTSD'). With regard to risk factors for PTSD, the results showed that avoidance, lack of control, the personal opinion about their coping with the trauma, and non-satisfaction with organizational after-care, correlated with PTSD.
