F.A.M. Kortmann
Within the psychological profession 'language' is a very important instrument to work with. In the first sessions one tries to come to a diagnostic assessment of the client. In this article the aim is to analyse the diagnostic procedure according to Searle's Speech-act theory. Listening is, because of the nature of language extreemly important. The examiner will have a hard job to catch on the right meaning of the world-symbols, the client uses. Further more an active planning attitude is very important when he comes to speech acts.
