Vragen rondom psychiatrische revalidatie
H. van Andel
(1) In this paper some problems about psychiatric rehabilitation are discussed.
Difficulties in the communication between doctor and patient recieve attention.
Psychiatric rehabilitation is based on intensive pharmocotherapy and sociotherapeutic trainingsmethods. The purpose is to help, for the first time or again, invalidated patients acquire some social abilities.
(2) It is of great importance, in making the rehabilitation program, to pay attention
to somatic health, schooling, visited schools, special personal qualities or talents, working practice and cultural level. These data are often forgotten, especially in the case of chronic patients. This leads to poor or even bad programs.
(3) The motivation of the patient is important for the succes of a suitable
program. This is stimulated if the doctor tries, from a participating role, to make
clear the meaning of his therapeutic methods to the patient. The hope, as a
therapeutic stimulant, is a very important factor and is connected closely with
the creation of an attractive perspective for the future.
(4) Treating patients for rehabilitation, it is necessary to have constantly in mind
the possibility of suicide. This applies particularly to asthenie personalities.
(5) The results of the treatment described are less if the organic disabilities are
worse
(6) The methods described are not suitable for patients with dementia or oligophrenics.
A normal L.Q. and unimpaired learning faculties are necessary conditions.
